Many cards add a foreign transaction fee on purchases made outside the United States. On a big trip it adds up: Chase's own example is $150 saved on $5,000 of international spending with a card that doesn't charge one. Every card below shows no foreign transaction fee on its issuer page as of October 22, 2026.

Avoid the other abroad fees
- Choose local currency. If a terminal or ATM offers to charge you in U.S. dollars, decline. Their exchange rate is usually worse than your card network's.
- Carry two cards on different networks (for example Visa and Mastercard) in case one isn't accepted.
- ATMs: a credit card cash withdrawal is a cash advance with fees and interest. Use a debit card built for travel instead.
- Compare exchange rates and transfer fees with Fareroo's sister site Roamoji.
Questions people ask
What is a foreign transaction fee?
A fee some issuers add to purchases processed outside the U.S. or in another currency. The cards on this page show none on the issuer page we checked.
Should I pay in dollars or local currency abroad?
Local currency. Choosing dollars at the terminal lets the merchant's provider set the exchange rate, which usually costs more.

Not financial advice. Fareroo is a travel-deals site, not a financial adviser, bank or lender. This page is general information to help you compare options; it doesn't consider your finances. A credit card only pays off if you pay the balance in full every month: interest and fees can quickly cost more than any rewards. Approval and terms are decided by the issuer. Never open a card just to chase a bonus you can't earn with normal spending.
