Canada's Air Passenger Protection Rules (APPR) in Plain English

When Canadian rules pay compensation for delays and cancellations, the amounts, and how to claim.

Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations cover flights to, from and within Canada, including connections.

Three kinds of disruption

Compensation for delays within airline control (large airlines)

Arrival delayAmount
3–6 hoursCAD 400
6–9 hoursCAD 700
9+ hoursCAD 1,000

Small airlines pay lower amounts. You must claim with the airline within one year; if you're unhappy with the response, you can complain to the Canadian Transportation Agency. The rules have been under revision, so check the CTA's website for the current version before claiming.
