UK261: Flight Delay Compensation After Brexit

How UK261 mirrors EU261 with £220/£350/£520 compensation, which flights are covered and how to claim.

After Brexit the UK kept EU261 in its own law, now usually called UK261. It works the same way, with amounts set in pounds.

Covered flights

Amounts

DistanceCompensation
Up to 1,500 km£220
1,500–3,500 km£350
Over 3,500 km£520

As with EU261, you need to arrive 3+ hours late, and extraordinary circumstances such as weather or air traffic control strikes are excluded.

Claiming

Claim with the airline first. If it rejects you, use the airline's alternative dispute resolution scheme (most UK airlines belong to one) or the Civil Aviation Authority's guidance. In England and Wales you can claim for up to six years after the flight.
