Before you buy
- Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked (iPhone: Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock; Android: ask your carrier or check Settings).
- Choose a plan for your destination's country or region and the number of days you need.
Install (do it at home on Wi-Fi)
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular (Mobile Data) → Add eSIM → scan the QR code or use the app's one-tap install. Label the line "Travel".
- Android: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add eSIM / Download a SIM → scan the QR code.
When you land
- Turn on the travel line and set it as the line for cellular data.
- Enable data roaming on the travel eSIM (it's technically roaming on a partner network).
- Keep data roaming off on your home line.
Troubleshooting
- No connection? Toggle airplane mode, then check the APN settings in the provider's instructions.
- Don't delete the eSIM until the trip is over; many can't be reinstalled.
- Top up in the provider's app if you run low.
